THE eighth annual Bayer Newbury 10k event has donated more than £13,000 to two local charities.

The race which took place in May this year, has donated £13,510 to Naomi House and Jacksplace and Newbury Athletic Club, which co-organised the event.

Additionally, the event's race photographer, Stuart March Photography, has donated £110 to Naomi House as part of the proceeds from photo sales.

Ute Bockstegers, Bayer's chief financial officer, said: “I felt very honoured to be there on the day and see so many people put all that effort into running and indeed organising the event. To generate such enjoyment and spirit and then to be able to donate a substantial sum to help so many people makes it all worthwhile.”

Paul Morgan, head of fundraising for Naomi House, said: “'We're so very grateful to Bayer for all the wonderful support they give us and we were honoured and delighted to be chosen as their charity partner for this year's 10k race. This fantastic sum will make such a difference to the children and families from West Berkshire and beyond who rely on the care they receive at Naomi House & Jacksplace.”

Brian Ireland, Newbury Athletic Club president, added: “This sum makes a huge difference to a club such as ours which provides the facilities which help both young people and adults to participate in the very healthy and enjoyable sport of athletics. This will help to boost those facilities and give more participation opportunities to enthusiastic runners in the months and years to come.”

The Bayer Newbury 10k and its associated junior races attracted 930 runners this year, generating cash for around 30 charities in all.
