HAMMER-WIELDING thieves stole over £3,000 from a Greggs bakery on Friday.

At around 5.30pm two men - who both had their faces concealed - entered the shop in Northbrook Street, demanding that two members of staff empty the safe.

They then fled the scene through the rear door, with £3,150 in cash.

The two members of staff - a man and a woman - were uninjured.

The first crook is white, in his mid twenties to mid thirties and of average build.

He was wearing a red-hooded top with a cream or light brown trim, a patterned scarf covering the bottom half of his face, and jeans.

He was carrying a black rucksack which was light grey at the front.

The second male, who is also white, was wearing a dark-coloured thigh length parka style coat, which had two pockets on the front, and dark jeans.

His face was also covered.

Investigating officer, Det Sgt John Yallop of Force CID based at Newbury, said: "We are conducting a thorough investigation into this serious offence and are determined to bring the offenders to justice. We are appealing to the public to help us achieve this.
