IT was just another manic run day as Newbury Showground was flooded with pink at this year’s Race for Life event on Sunday (July 3).

More than 1,500 women and girls ran, jogged and walked around the 5km and 10km courses to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

Michelle Leighton, event manager of the Newbury race, said that more than £110,000 was expected to be raised by Sunday’s run.

She added: “It was such a beautiful day, with a great atmosphere. It was really, really special and everyone seem to really enjoy it.

“We had one lady in her 80s taking part in the 10km event and another lady, called Julie, who has survived cancer twice, taking part on her birthday and 14th wedding anniversary, pushing a stroller. It was just amazing.”

Last weekend was the busiest in the Race for Life calendar, with 56,000 women and girls all taking part in events across the country.
