A MAN was punched in the face and kicked in the ribs as two robbers attempted to take his rucksack in Newbury.

The 25-year-old was walking along Newtown Road towards the town centre between 10.00pm-10.30pm on Friday 24 when two men approached him.

Both men parted to allow the man to walk between them.

As he passed them, the larger of the two grabbed the strap of the man's rucksack.

The second robber punched the man in the face so hard that he fell to the ground, before kicking him in the ribs.

The two men ran away empty-handed.

The first man is Asian, 6ft 3ins, and approximately 30-years-old.

He had very short shaved black hair and a trimmed black beard.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a tight-fitting blue jumper, dark coloured trousers and a gold ring on the little finger of his right hand.

The second man is also Asian, 6ft 1in and was very slim.

He had black hair and a gaunt face with a large pointed nose and chin.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a white shirt which had light blue flowers on it and light blue jeans.

He was wearing a silver watch with a black strap and silver chain on his right wrist.
