Boy stole pure from 90-year-old after tricking his way in to her home
AN ELDERLY woman was left suffering from shock after a cruel youngster tricked his way into her home and stole her purse and cash.
The 92-year-old victim let the boy into the house in Westland, Thatcham, because he said he was collecting for a local school but when she went into the living room to find some money he grabbed her purse and fled.
Police say the incident took place between midday on Friday, December 28 and noon the following day but the old lady is not sure of the exact time.
Detective Inspector Clare Knibbs, of Newbury police, said: "We would urge the public to report any suspicious behaviour and contact us urgently if you have been called upon by anyone claiming to be collecting for school fundraising events or charity.
"We would like to remind people to be cautious when answering the door to people collecting money. Please ensure you ask for identification and we would strongly advise not letting them into your home."
Anyone with information should call Det Insp Clare Knibbs via the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
