NEWBURY 2nds were promoted from Division 8a of the Thames Valley League after their game against nearest rivals Sonning 3rds was abandoned due to rain, writes Richard Ashton.

Russell Bartlett (4-51) and Matt Smith (3-12) did the damage as Sonning we dismissed for 192, but the rain arrived with Newbury 19-1 after 6.2 overs in reply, leaving them three points clear of their opponents.

In Division One, Falkland ended in sixth place after their game at home to runners-up Stoke Green was abandoned.

Saranga Rajaguru (43no) top scored as the hosts made 122-5 in 27 overs before the game was called off.

John Williams (5-25) and Callum Johnson (3-40) starred as Thatcham Town bowled Slough 2nds out for 152 in Division 2b.

The hosts reached 55-2 in reply before the weather intervened, leaving Thatcham eighth in the table.

In Division 3a, third-placed Newbury (6-1) saw their last game of the season washed out at Purley-on-Thames (226-8), although Sat Pal bowled well to claim figures of 3-48.

Runners-up Sonning (94-1) thrashed Falkland 2nds (90) by nine wickets.

In Division 4b, Thatcham Town 2nds (52) were demolished by 10 wickets at Fleet (54-0).

Sunil Sharma (4-57) shone for Falkland 3rds (47-1) in their curtailed Division 5b home game with Maidenhead & Bray 2nds (149).

In Division 7a, Kidmore End 2nds totalled 203-6 before Thatcham Town 3rds’ innings of 36-0 was cut short by the rain.
