The Kingfishers are currently 18th in Southern Division One South & West and have the lowest average attendance in the league at just 77.
A statement from the club read: “Thatcham Town Football Club has resigned from the Southern League due to failure in finding a replacement main sponsor for BMG after their three-year deal ended.
“The five-week closure of the railway crossing has caused a massive fall in revenue, as well as rising maintenance costs, has left the club with no alternative but to drop to a lower level in an attempt to cut costs and survive.
“The club has some of the best facilities in the Southern League and with the population size of Thatcham deserves more local support.
“We hope this is a minor blip in the clubs 120 year history and hopefully can recover and return to Step Four.”
