A NEWBURY woman is putting her best foot forward in a bid to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer after her mother died from the disease eight years ago.

Sandra Owen, a supervisor with the Newbury care home provider Bluebird Care, is taking part in the Race To The Stones in July.

The race will see the 49-year-old tackle a 100km trek along the Ridgeway, finishing at the Avebury Stones near Marlborough, Wiltshire.

Sandra said: “I took up walking eight years ago. Ever since my mother died I’ve wanted to do something to help other people. I’ve now walked seven marathons, 100km ultra-marathons, and four half marathons. I found that walking helped me deal with my grief, as I could clear my head. It is a great way of de-stressing.” Currently Sandra has raised £3,000 for the charity and she is hoping to raise another £300 with her next feat.

This will be the third time Sandra has tackled the walk.

She is also taking part in the Pilgrim’s Challenge and the London to Brighton Walk.

Bluebird Care Newbury have sponsored Sandra and even paid for her air fare to a charity walk in Edinburgh. For more information visit https://www.justgiving.com/Sandra-Owen8/2
