A YEAR 7 pupil decided to take positive action against cancer and organised a Newbury school’s Race for Life event.
After seeing a family member fight the disease, Tiegan Doyle inspired more than 650 people to run and raise money for Cancer Research last week.
She took her idea to head teacher, Derek Peaple, who agreed to the event.
Tiegan said: “It means a lot to see so many people out here doing the run to help beat cancer.”
Both students and staff participated in either a 2km or 4km race on the school grounds.
Participants received medals and house points, with sixth form students and some members of staff marshalling the event.
Mr Peaple said: “I am so proud of every single student who took part in our Race For Life.
“This very special event exemplified all that’s equally special about the spirit of our school community.”
Money is still being counted from the event, however the race has currently raised more than £1,000 for the charity.
