MALCOLM Thwaites is the 2016 senior champion at West Berks thanks to a gross 79 in the senior championships held on Sunday.

Playing off a 10 handicap, his nett 69 was also the best nett score of the day.

Last year’s champion Derek Smith was second with 82 while Phil Moss and Tony Coventry tied for third place on 84.

Luke Johnson won the Saturday stableford with 39 points, while Daniel Bowsher was second with 38 and Kevin Wilkins third with 37.

Bernie Holden won the summer stableford competition with 43 points. Nicholas Bishop was second on 41 and Steve Cox was a further shot behind in third place.

Mary Harwood and Gale McAuley won the West Berks’ qualifying round of the PING Women’s Fourball Betterball competition with 39 points. Babs Collyer and Tina Mulford were second with 33 and Tina Clayton and Ann Davies third on 31.

Sandy Miller won the ladies’ mid-week medal with a nett 79 while Mary Harwood beat Shelagh Lancaster on count-back to take second place with nett 85.

The men’s senior team won 3-2 at home to Sand Martins.
