WEST Berks GC won the point needed to clinch the Division One title of the Central Sevens Golf League when they gained a last-gasp half at home to Cotswolds Club.

Down in the tie 3½-2½ with one match still on the course, rookie Simon Barrie, in his first outing for the team, won 3&2 to secure the point required to level the tie and land the title.

Meanwhile, West Berks put in strong away performances during the week, with the seniors gaining two fine away wins, 3-2 at Erlestoke and 4-2 at Wokefield Park, while the men’s team halved at Sandford Springs.

Giles Feltham with a gross 79, nett 72, won the Crawford Cup by three shots from Colin Mercer (pictured), with Nicholas Bishop a further shot back in third place.

Ray Freeman won the Saturday stableford scoring 36 points, two points clear of John Thompson who took second place on count-back from Geoffrey Dominy.

Tony White won the midweek stableford with 33 points, while Stuart King was second with 32 and Ian Haines third on 30.
